Boiler Feed Water Filtration Systems

Remove suspended solids before chemical conditioning and feedwater treatment.

Boiler feed water filtration removes suspended solids from incoming water before chemical conditioning and feedwater treatment, so downstream equipment and the boiler stay protected.

Yardney media filters are skid-mounted and fully assembled, with sand media rated to 20 microns, deep bed to 15, and multi media to 5.

  • Media filters down to 5 microns
  • Skid-mounted and fully assembled
  • Media filters from 10 gpm and up
  • Serving industry since 1965

Why Boiler Feed Water Needs Filtration

Boiler feed systems need clean water to reduce the scaling, fouling, and corrosion that lower heat transfer efficiency and raise maintenance costs. Solids that enter with the feedwater do not leave with the steam; they stay in the boiler and collect as sludge or sediment that degrades heat transfer.

Filtering suspended solids out before chemical conditioning and feedwater treatment protects downstream equipment, improves reliability, and supports more stable boiler operation and longer service life.

Benefits

Protect Downstream Equipment: Remove solids before they reach conditioning and feedwater treatment stages.

Reduce Sludge and Deposits: Less solids entering the boiler means less sediment to manage.

Support Heat Transfer: Cleaner feedwater helps limit fouling that lowers heat transfer efficiency.

Extend Service Life: Support more stable boiler operation and longer equipment life.

Yardney Multi Media Filters for Boiler Feed Water

Yardney Multi Media filters remove organic and inorganic suspended solids down to 5 microns and are used as pre-filtration ahead of granular activated carbon, reverse osmosis, cartridge or bag filtration, and deionized water. Sand Media and Deep Bed filters remove solids down to 20 and 15 microns.

Each system ships complete on a skid with tanks, valves, manifolds, controller, tubing, solenoids, and a removable underdrain, ready for water and power hookup. Performance can be modified to target a given particle size range, so the filter can be matched to the treatment that follows.

Applications

  • Pre-filtration ahead of boiler feedwater conditioning and treatment
  • Removal of organic and inorganic suspended solids down to 5 microns (Multi Media)
  • Pre-filtration ahead of carbon, reverse osmosis, cartridge or bag filtration, and deionized water
  • Incoming plant and building water
  • Stand-alone use or in conjunction with other filtration technologies

Standard Assembly Includes (media systems)

Boiler Feed Filtration Process

  • Feed water passes through a media filter first, which traps suspended solids in the bed.
  • Filtered water continues to chemical conditioning and feedwater treatment.
  • Treated water is fed to the boiler.
  • Backwash starts on elapsed time or pressure differential and releases the captured solids, one tank at a time.

Filtration removes suspended solids. Hardness, dissolved solids, and corrosion control are handled by the feedwater treatment program.

Filtration Technology Options

Multi Media: organic and inorganic suspended solids down to 5 microns; 60-inch side shell; from 10 gpm

Deep Bed Sand Media: organic and inorganic suspended solids down to 15 microns; 36-inch side shell; from 10 gpm

Sand Media: organic and inorganic suspended solids down to 20 microns; 24-inch side shell; from 10 gpm

Boiler Feed Filtration FAQs

What is boiler feed water filtration?

It removes suspended solids from incoming water before chemical conditioning and feedwater treatment, protecting downstream equipment and the boiler.

As water evaporates in a boiler, solids from the feedwater are left behind and form sludge or sediment that degrades heat transfer. Removing them before the boiler means less to manage by blowdown.

Sand Media filters remove suspended solids down to 20 microns, Deep Bed down to 15, and Multi Media down to 5. Yardney can review your water and the treatment that follows.

No. Filtration removes suspended solids ahead of chemical conditioning and feedwater treatment. Hardness, dissolved solids, and corrosion control still need those stages.

Yardney media filters start at 10 gpm and are sized to your flow. For larger flows, Yardney Large Vessel systems use vessels up to 144 inches in diameter.
