Process Water Filtration Systems

Protect equipment and keep results repeatable by removing suspended solids.

Process water filtration removes suspended solids from the water used in washing, cooling, recirculation loops, and feedwater so equipment stays protected and output stays consistent.

Yardney media filters and RCW systems are skid-mounted and fully assembled, for industrial and commercial plants.

Why Process Water Needs Filtration

Process water quality affects equipment uptime, product consistency, and operating costs, especially where spray nozzles, cooling passages, or precision components are involved. Suspended solids cause plugging, abrasion, and downstream variability.

Stable filtration supports repeatable results across shifts and seasons. In industrial plants that means recirculation loops, wash lines, and feedwater conditioning. In commercial facilities it means wash systems, recirculation, cooling-related processes, and facility operations.

Benefits

Prevent Plugging: Remove solids that clog spray nozzles, cooling passages, and precision components.

Reduce Abrasion and Wear: Keep abrasive particles away from pumps, valves, and process equipment.

Support Consistent Quality: Limit the downstream variability that suspended solids create.

Enable Water Reuse: Prepare plant water for reuse with filtration that runs through shifts and seasons.

Yardney Media Filters for Process Water

Yardney Sand Media, Deep Bed Sand Media, and Multi Media filters remove organic and inorganic suspended solids down to 20, 15, and 5 microns. They can run stand-alone or ahead of other filtration technologies.

Each system arrives skid mounted and ready for water and power hookup, and performance can be adjusted to target a given particle size range. For recirculating loops, Yardney RCW systems add a pump and motor on the same skid.

Applications

  • Industrial process water and incoming plant water
  • Industrial water for plant reuse
  • Wastewater clean-up
  • Recirculating cooling and process water (RCW)
  • Pre-filtration ahead of carbon, reverse osmosis, cartridge or bag filtration, and deionized water

Standard Assembly Includes (media systems)

  • Full assembly on a skid mount

  • Inlet, outlet, and backwash manifolds
  • Controller, solenoids, electrical wire, and tubing
  • Removable underdrain
  • Interior epoxy coating (3M Scotchkote 134)

Available Options

Process Water Filtration Process

  • Water enters the tank through the inlet manifold, and a two-stage deflector spreads it evenly across the media bed.
  • Particulate is trapped in the bed, and clean water leaves through the stainless steel wedgewire underdrain.
  • Backwash starts on elapsed time or pressure differential and lifts the bed to release particulate to the backwash manifold.
  • One tank is backwashed at a time while the others keep processing water.

Mechanical filtration removes suspended solids, not dissolved contaminants. Where those matter, filtration is often used as pretreatment for carbon, reverse osmosis, or other treatment.

Filtration Technology Options

Sand Media: organic and inorganic suspended solids down to 20 microns; backwash runs one tank at a time

Multi Media: organic and inorganic suspended solids down to 5 microns; backwash starts automatically by elapsed time or pressure differential

RCW Recirculating Water: skid-mounted systems for recycled cooling tower and industrial process water; from 10 gpm, 80 psi standard

Process Water in Practice: Glass Fabrication Plant

A Midwest automotive glass plant used a Yardney Multi-Media system to filter 250 gpm of glass grinding wastewater, taken as a sidestream from the front end of its settling basins. The system reached a near 90% solids removal rate and let the plant meet the suspended solids limits in its discharge permit.

Basin cleanings dropped from quarterly to less than once a year, and annual cleaning and disposal costs fell from $46,000 to $9,000 between 2002 and 2007.

Process Water Filtration FAQs

What is process water filtration?

It removes suspended solids from the water used in washing, cooling, recirculation loops, and feedwater so equipment stays protected and results stay consistent.

Solids can plug spray nozzles and cooling passages, abrade pumps and components, and cause variability in downstream processes.

It depends on the particles and flow. Sand media filters remove suspended solids down to 20 microns, Deep Bed down to 15, and Multi Media down to 5. Yardney can review your water data to match the filter.

Yes. Yardney media filters are used as pre-filtration ahead of granular activated carbon, reverse osmosis, cartridge or bag filtration, and deionized water systems.

No. Filtration removes suspended solids. Dissolved contaminants and chemistry still need a separate treatment approach.
